Joshua and his team are based in New York's Hudson Valley, about an hour north of NYC. We specialize in weddings, but also offer family portrait sessions, videography, and a photo booth that can be booked with or without a wedding package. Our new studio space in Newburgh can be rented out for tiny weddings, rehearsal dinners, and elopements. Services
Joshua is a photographer and videographer with over 20 years of wedding experience, based in New York's Hudson Valley. He is a former photojournalist from Tennessee who brings an unobtrusive and calm demeanor to every wedding. Although he primarily works in the Catskills and Hudson Valley now, he has shot weddings all over the globe.
Weddings are more than your cake, flowers, dress, and shoes. Weddings are about your people and enjoying your special day with them. We'll do all we can to capture as many of them as possible with photography, videography, and even a photo booth or drone as our tools. At the end of the day, you should have about 1000 amazing moments to look back on, not 500 photos of your dress hanging in the hallway. Below are some of our favorite moments from weddings in the Hudson Valley and Catskills over the years.
We have two main options for the videos. You can order one or the other or both. The first and most popular is the short film. We will bring a dedicated videographer to record all day, and at the end of it you end up with a beautiful 5-7 minute film like you see below. We also have the option for the second photographer to record a few milestone moments from a tripod. Usually the ceremony and speeches and maybe a few dances.
After witnessing hundreds of weddings at different scales and forming lots of opinions, Joshua and his wife decided to elope in the Catskills in 2017. Luckily, this area is one of the most naturally beautiful locations on the planet, and he was able to buy a little 8 acre evergreen forest where the elopement took place.

Joshua took absolutely beautiful photographs of our wedding. He knew all the tricks in the book to get our stunning photographs done quickly and without taking up too much of our precious wedding day. Beyond our gorgeous photos, the best thing was the turnaround time. He got us our photos so quickly that my friends were shocked. He is fantastic and we would highly recommend him.

Feel very lucky that Joshua Brown Photography took beautiful photos of my daughter at her preschool. I never imagined *school pictures* to bring me to tears. His photographs captured her WHOLE 2 year old personality and we loved them! He was professional and his turnaround was shockingly fast. Even ordered Christmas cards directly from his website!

Joshua was the absolute perfect choice for our intimate elopement in Hudson Valley. He gave us tons of recommendations on great places to stay, flowers, where to do the ceremony, locations for great photos, etc. The day went perfectly and the photos really show it. I highly recommend Joshua Brown Photography for your micro wedding photography. We are very happy with the photos he took at our tiny, outdoor wedding. Many have described the photos as a fairytale when they see the pictures and its true - the way he captures the environment, lighting, and mood is perfect. In addition to his beautiful pictures, Joshua is kind and personable.

I am ecstatic that we chose Joshua to shoot our wedding this past weekend in the Catskills. He is the ideal vendor: calm, organized, communicative and professional. When I was running around the week before our wedding, I scheduled calls with all of our vendors to make sure we had everything we needed and everyone else had a laundry list of things for me - except Joshua.
You can rest assured that he's got everything covered which is such a relief when planning a wedding. We loved that he's not a fan of corny group shots and loved the "broody" tone of his photos which is why we booked him. But after viewing the first round of photos he gave to us from our wedding I see there is so much more - he found pockets of light and areas of our venue that I would have walked right past.
Some of the photos I was skeptical about during the shoot (like standing in an outcropping of ferns) are my favorite. I was also shocked to get the first wave of photos two days after our wedding. They were everything I had hoped for and they aren't even retouched yet. Also looking through the crowd shots - I think he managed to capture every single one of our guests in a meaningful way.
I am so impressed with the moments he caught on film and the happy expressions he captured on everyone's faces. I also appreciated that as the night was ending, he checked in with me to see if there was anything else I wanted captured. I felt like he really cared that we got everything we were hoping for out of working with him. I can't recommend him enough - Thank you so much for capturing our special day.

We chose Joshua as our wedding photographer because he has a journalist's eye for capturing small moments and the essence of people. At our wedding, he photographed quiet or hidden moments that might otherwise have gone unnoticed, and his photos of our friends and family are so true to their personalities that it looks like he's known them for years. Joshua is also very skilled at dealing with unusual lighting situations -- and he uses light in such a way that some of his photos look like paintings.

Looking through our wedding album, we were so moved and grateful that Joshua and his team had captured not only the big, beautiful scenes of happiness, but also the quieter moments of intimacy and love throughout the night. Blue Hill at Stone Barns was magical -the perfect backdrop - and Joshua photographed our guests interacting with the scenery so beautifully.

Joshua Brown Photography did a spectacular job documenting our wedding at Locust Grove in May 2018. Joshua is a very talented photographer - he provided us with a collection of photos that recreate our wedding day in careful detail for us and our family. Joshua is also kind and calm, and spent a lot of time discussing what we wanted and the details of the wedding with us in the months before the event.
He knew exactly where to be and when, and it shows in the moments captured in our photos, particularly the candid shots. His assistant Allie is also extremely talented - she took lovely candid portraits of our guests. They both handled our rainy wedding without any problem, and they provided us with our photos well within a reasonable time frame. I didn't realize how important our photographer would be until the day was over and because of a mix of adrenaline/gin and tonics I barely remembered anything. Waking up the next day I felt kind of sad until I saw our BEAUTIFUL photographs which Joshua turned around in a just a few days. Suddenly all the amazing memories from that day came flooding back to me! Joshua and his assistant captured the personalities of our guests and the "vibe" of the wedding perfectly.

Hiring Joshua Brown to take our wedding photos was one of the best decisions we made! I found Joshua online after browsing through countless photographer's websites. When I saw his photos, I immediately knew he would be capable of capturing our day in the more relaxed style I was hoping for. His rates were very competitive and the booking process was simple and straightforward.
He was prompt and courteous throughout all of our email exchanges in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding. In addition to the base package, we paid to have Joshua bring a second photographer and had him set up a photo booth which was triggered by our guests. We were married at the Bowery Hotel in NYC in May 2014, and we are so thrilled with how our photos turned out. Both our engagement photos taken in DUMBO, Brooklyn and our photos from our July 2012 wedding at Dyker Beach Golf Course were fantastic. Joshua did an amazing job capturing the emotions of us and our guests leaving us with vivid and beautiful memories that we cherish now, four years later possibly more than when the day was fresh in our minds. Joshua focused less on the scene and more on interactions and reactions.
This approach best captured the moments that were most important for us to remember as well as those that we missed. It was fun to see how much fun our guests had and how touched they were by the ceremony without needing to ask. Besides producing beautiful photos that told a detailed story story about our experiences that day, Joshua was wonderful to work with.
He was creative and enjoyed what he was doing. He never told us what to do, got in the way, or intruded on a special moment -- most of the time we were unaware he was there. He has a low-key relaxed demeanor and takes his work seriously so I didn't have to worry about it, which made for a non stressful wedding day from start to finish. I was particularly impressed when a random guest without our consent began ordering Joshua around about what posed photos he should shoot. Joshua complied with the requests, ignored the guest's disrespectful tone, and quickly turned his attention back to the party at large.
This could have easily turned into a dramatic scene, but instead it was nothing more than a blip on my radar. I am so grateful for his professionalism in that moment. Overall my husband and I love our photos, received extensive unsolicited praise from friends and family on the images and albums, and have nothing negative to say about working with Joshua. We highly recommend him!
